Waterboarding Championships Coming to Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Forget the presidential library. It's more appropriate for sporty president George W. Bush to be remembered by a sporting event that stems from his policies as U.S. president: waterboarding.
Participants in the Bush Invitational International Waterboarding Championships are strapped to their boards and must keep a washcloth in their mouths. Using only hands and feet to maneuver and catch waves, the lucky few reach shore first; the losers usually end up flipping over and drowning.
"Despite the high mortality rate, waterboarding is a hot new sport."
— Dirk Rakum, event spokesperson
It's a great time for all, and event planners say they expect large crowds. The festivities will be televised on FOX-TV.
"We're just pleased to death to be hosting this fine event," says Dirk Rakum, spokesperson for the inaugural championship. "Despite the high mortality rate, waterboarding is a hot new sport that we expect to grow in popularity. And now, having the president's name attached to the sport, there's no limit to what we can do!"
Sport promoters, and companies like Haliburton and Blackwater Security, will set up booths and give out swag, including black hoodies, plastic handcuffs and electric zappers. Music will be provided by the rock band Iron Maiden.
Abdul Mahtouza al-Zam Yammiri, a former terrorist suspect, trained intensely during his stay at Guantanamo Bay and is the now the reigning waterboarding champ.
"You gotta love this sport!" says Yammiri.
Yammiri is the top seed, and is widely expected to win the Huntington Beach invitational.
